Food for Thought: Cuisinart® CleanWater™ Countertop Filtration System
Offering Consumers an Eco-Friendly Way to Enjoy Fresh-Tasting Filtered Water
Toronto, ON According to the Safe Drinking Water Foundation (SDWF, www.safewater.org), a registered charitable organization, Canadians spent $652.7 million for 1.9 billion litres of bottled water in 2005, approximately 60 litres per capita in one year. The city of Toronto estimates that one litre of tap water in Canada costs less than one-tenth of a cent while bottled water costs 240 - 10,000 times more.
SDWF estimates that 88 per cent of plastic bottles are not disposed of properly; they end up in the trash instead of being recycled. Many end up in landfills where they can take thousands of years to breakdown. In addition to creating unnecessary waste, the production and transportation of bottled water requires a great deal of resources and energy which has a negative environmental impact.
Cuisinart has launched a new countertop filtration system designed to encourage consumers to lower their use of single-serve bottled water by offering them a convenient way to enjoy clean, fresh-tasting, filtered water without making a significant impact on the environment. The Cuisinart® CleanWater™ Countertop Filtration System is available in a 2-gallon capacity unit (model no. WCH-950C). With two spigots consumers can enjoy chilled, room temperature or hot water at the touch of a button.
What to Look for When Purchasing a Countertop Filtration System:
Convenience:
Unlike free-standing water filtration systems that use large and cumbersome containers of water and take up significant floor space, Cuisinart’s compact purification system sits directly on the counter. Consumers no longer have to buy heavy cases of bottled water or large water bottles at the store. The CleanWater™ Countertop Filtration unit quickly dispenses clean and refreshing water that is hot, chilled or room temperature. The 2-gallon unit has blue/red LED indicators that light up when the water is ready.
Performance:
One of the signature benefits of the Cuisinart filtration system is that the unit’s filter significantly reduces contaminants such as chlorine, mercury and copper. Each filter has an average life of 80 gallons, which will last three to four months on average for household use. The filter is NSF certified.
Design:
The brushed stainless steel housing of the Cuisinart® CleanWater™ Countertop Filtration System makes it an attractive yet compact addition to any countertop.
