When Being ‘Sensitive’ is Hazardous to Your Health
Toronto, ON A growing number of Canadian adults and children are now living with food sensitivities or allergies to everyday foods like nuts, dairy, shellfish and gluten (found in wheat products). Cuisinart, best known for introducing the food processor to North Americans in the 70s, recently introduced a Convection Bread Maker that enables at-home bakers to make better gluten-free breads with a Gluten-Free Cycle.
“Being on a restricted diet can be challenging. Not only does it limit menu options, but specialty foods can be costly and difficult to find particularly if you live in a smaller community,” says Michelle Kostya, Cuisinart Canada. “Cuisinart’s Convection Bread Maker has a Gluten-Free Cycle that lets consumers make their own gluten-free breads at a fraction of the cost of buying them in-store.”
According to the Canadian Celiac Association, approximately 1 in 100 people have a gluten allergy or sensitivity. And since gluten is found in most flours, the ingredients used to create gluten-free breads are unique. The Cuisinart Convection Bread Maker Gluten-Free Cycle is specifically designed for gluten-free flours, such as rice flour and tapioca flour. Since gluten-free breads have more moisture, only one rise cycle and a longer bake cycle is used. Cuisinart’s gluten-free setting makes it easy to get the perfect results.
Kostya points out that Cuisinart has a number of other small appliances that can make life easier for Canadians with food sensitivities or allergies by giving them more control over ingredients. “Cuisinart’s ice cream makers, for example, let consumers make ice creams, frozen yoghurts and sorbets from scratch at home so they are ideal for kids with dairy or nut sensitivities.”
Cuisinart’s Convection Bread Maker (model CBK-200C) is available at department stores and gourmet shops across Canada for a suggested retail price of $149.99. Cuisinart’s product line includes a number of ice cream maker models including: ICE-45C Soft Serve Ice Cream Makers (SRP $149.99), ICE-20C/RC Frozen Yogurt Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker (SRP $69.99/79.99), ICE-30BCC Pure Indulgence Frozen Yogurt Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker (SRP $99.99), ICE-20BCC Supreme Commercial Quality Ice Cream Maker (SRP $299.99).
