An Old Softy Gets a Cool, New Twist
Create soft serve ice cream at home with Cuisinart’s new automatic ice cream maker

Toronto, ON — Nothing says summer like soft serve ice cream. Now instead of waiting for the ice cream truck, Cuisinart introduces the ICE-45C — a new ice-cream maker that dispenses soft serve ice cream directly into a bowl or cone. Available in July 2006, the latest addition to Cuisinart’s collection of culinary appliances allows ice cream lovers to customize flavours to suit their tastes and nutritional requirements.

“The chime of the ice cream truck is one sure sign of summer, but with Cuisinart’s new soft serve ice cream maker families can create custom flavours using the fresh ingredients they love all year round,” says Michelle Kostya, Category Manager, Cuisinart Canada. “And because it is fully automatic, it’s easy to make soft ice cream or frozen yoghurt in as little as 20 minutes.”

Simple to use, consumers place ingredients in the unit, turn it on and the constant spinning of the mixing paddle produces soft serve ice cream. Like other Cuisinart ice cream makers, the machine uses a double insulated freezer bowl to make up to 1.5 qt of ice cream. Cuisinart recommends storing the bowl in the freezer so it is ready to make frozen treats whenever the craving strikes.

Added features include a cone holder that can fit both flat and pointed cones as well as three topping containers. One is designed to fit small mix-ins such as sprinkles, while the other two are designed for larger items such as Smarties or nuts. Once selected, the containers allow toppings to be mixed into the ice cream as it dispenses.

Left over ice cream can be placed in an air-tight container in the freezer and after a few hours it hardens to the consistency of standard ice cream. To make clean-up easy, removable parts are dishwasher safe, with the exception of the freezer bowl which can easily be washed by hand.

With a suggested retail price of CAD $129.99, the Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker is backed with a 3-year warranty.
